West of England

Map of the West of EnglandThe West of England is a local government sub-region within the South West of the UK. From the 1970s to the 1990s it was known as the county of  Avon. More recently it's been divided between the four unitary authorities: Bristol, South Gloucester, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset.

More information about the region can be found at www.westofengland.org. It is interesting to see the vision of the West of England Partnership for 2026 and to compare this with we:network's initial vision for the next twenty years.

This local government cooperation reflects the social cohesion that's always been present in this region, no doubt encouraged by the navigational and land routes inland afforded by the Avon river valley.

Given this long standing cohesion and natural tendency to cooperate, we decided to name the new network, The West of England Network or we:network! For more about the activities of we:network see: about us.
