Love Running Raise £50,000 at the 10k Run

So yesterday was the day of the big run, and what an absolutely incredible day it was too!

I've never experienced anything like it. 300 people running under the banner of 'Love Running' and, boy, did everyone sit up and notice. Every 25th runner was wearing one of our red shirts and the atmosphere was incredible. We even had people turning up at our church that evening because they'd been so impressed by 300 people from one church running for charity. I was interviewed by the BBC (radio) and there was also a fantastic article about us in the press - not to mention all the love we got from the race commentators ("and there goes another of those Love Runners... and there's another one, and another!!")

Together we've raised just over £50,000 and we reckon we can make it to our corporate target of £60,000.

If you haven't sponsored me yet, and you really wanted to, then now's your last chance! Please visit my page: www.justgiving.com/philipj

I'm just under £300 away from my (admittedly revised and upgraded) target.

There are more pictures of our race day here, and there's a great article from the local press, which starts with the line, "Perhaps it was the high number of churchgoers taking part that led to the perfect weather for Bristol's second 10k race." You can read the rest here.

If you're around in Bristol this Saturday I'd love to invite you to join us at our Runners Ball. It's going to be a blast! You can get information here.

The run was organised to raise money for people in Zimbabwe. Over 4,000 people have died of cholera in Zimbabwe over the last few months. That's more people than perished in the Twin Towers. And each and every single death was utterly avoidable.

Can you imagine a greater tragedy?

We've never seen what we're now seeing in Zimbabwe before. We're looking at the collapse of an entire nation. 75% of the population are starving to death, in need of food aid. 95% of people are unemployed. The Zimbabwean dollar is literally worthless. Add to this the breakdown of health, education and social services, with the rampant rise of AIDS, and you've got a human disaster on an unimaginable scale.

Thank you to everyone that sponsored this event.
