The Noise 2008

The Noise 2008

If you happened to be in Horfield, Lockleaze, Manor Farm or Southmead over the bank holiday weekend (3rd – 5th May) you couldn’t fail to bump into one of the 450 enthusiastic volunteers clad in blue T-shirts, participating in one of the community action projects, as part of The Noise 2008.

The Noise is a nationwide initiative aiming to mobilise Christians (and particularly young people) to make a difference in their local community and show God’s love in practical ways. In Bristol, the Noise is in its 7th year and has more than doubled in size from last year by adding Southmead to the list of areas it impacts.

Run by local churches, the noise has become an annual event aimed at impacting the poorer parts of the North of the city.  Strong partnerships have grown with local bodies such as the police, schools, voluntary and statutory groups all with a heart to see transformation and long term sustainable projects emerging.

Volunteers not only cleaned up public areas, they also ran senior citizen’s banquets, activities for young people, kids clubs, children’s activities and community fun afternoons. The massive list of projects they aimed to complete were all finished by the end of the weekend thanks to the dedication of so many volunteers. Everything was done or offered for free enabling everyone in the local community to take part.

The Noise aims to impact people’s lives not only on this weekend but over the long term as relationships are built and volunteers sign up for ongoing work in the communities they are called to. If you would like to sign up for a long term project, click here for more information.
